TAX RCEIPT

So the Government has finally decided that it was going to come clean! Well sort of, President Obama has promised the American tax payers that they will be able to see how their tax dollars are spent!

"In his State of the Union Address, President Obama promised that this year, for the first time ever, American taxpayers would be able to go online and see exactly how their federal tax dollars are spent. Just enter a few pieces of information about your taxes, and the taxpayer receipt will give you a breakdown of how your tax dollars are spent on priorities like education, veterans benefits, or health care."

This is a step in the right direction for the rebuilding of our trust in the American Government. They try to hide everything and that just makes them untrustworthy. This is a step that i have been hoping would happen, now we will be able to see our tax dollars hard at work, and actually see what they are working towards. I wonder how accurate these receipts are going to be? Do you think that the government will just continue to lie about what they are doing with our money? Or will they actually be honest and say how this money is being broken up in reality? How do you feel about the tax payer receipts?

  1. I think this will be an interesting "experiment". I imagine that plenty of people would want to see their taxpayer receipts, but how many of them are going to be happy with what they see?

Let's give the government the benefit of the doubt in regards to the accuracy of these receipts. My first thought after reading this was the possible dissatisfaction of taxpayers upon learning of where their tax dollars are going. What if taxes are going to an organization or project that the taxpayer doesn't personally support?

I think this move will open up a can of worms that may be beneficial in the end. If a taxpayer were to gripe about where their taxes are going, tell them to campaign and vote for representatives that would support their views. These taxpayer receipts could be the tool to increase voter turnout.

  2. I think that even though the government is slowly start to "open up" to us, I really don't think that it's going to work. Some how, one way or another, they are going to find a way to fudge up the numbers and only give us what they think we should know. So lets see. Lets see if this is actually going to happen and work.
